Welcome to the BYU Child Language Labs!
We are the Child Language Research Labs at BYU. We work to improve treatment options for children (ages 3-15) who struggle with language, and their parents. We want people to know more about our research and how they can get involved!
When we say children who struggle with language, we mean they may have difficulty:
- using or understanding long sentences
- understanding directions
- learning new words
- telling stories
- using the right words, or all the words in a sentence
- asking or answering questions
- talking with other kids their same age
- telling about what they did that day (for example, at school)
We work with a lot of different children, including those who have developmental language disorder (DLD), Down syndrome, ADHD, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), speech sound disorders, and autism. We conduct our research in-person and virtually in a variety of languages.
